Crowds treated to night of valiant fights at Mayhem in Mesquite VII

MESQUITE, Nev. — The Mayhem in Mesquite VII went off with a bang Saturday night at the Casablanca Resort and Casino, with nine hotly contested fights in the octagon.

Amid fanfare and an enthusiastic crowd, Marcus Fuller and Brandon “Prince” Rios kicked off the night. Rios, in black and red shorts, was dominant and ended the first bout early, defeating Fuller with a technical knockout (TKO).

With the crowd hooting and hollering, Calvin Parrington came out and beat up on foe Brahyan Zurcher. Parrington ended the fight in the second round with a TKO.

The big fellas entered the octagon next, with St. George native Ricky “Redemption” Wright battling Cory Osborne. The heavyweight match went Osborne’s way as he forced the referee to stop the bout in the second round on a TKO.

Next up was Joes Aguayo, in all black trunks, taking on Tyler Naas. The fight was delayed early on due to an illegal groin shot, but eventually Aguayo overpowered his foe as Naas tapped out in the first round.

Bronson Sabado, billing himself as “The Shark,” defeated Bryce “Wu tang” Harley late in the third round with a TKO.

Charles “The Outlaw” Weast and “Concrete” Cameron Olson came ou tot battle, but an unintentional groin shot halted the bout and it was declared a “no contest.”

As the evening wore on, fans were treated to some excellent fights, with Rocky Cantu and Hugo Flores battling the full three rounds. Judges declared Cantu the victor in a unanimous decision.

Matt Mast, from Layton, Utah, entered the octagon late in the evening and battled hard with opponent Corey Conway. Mast came away with a unanimous decision in the fight that went the distance.

The final bout of the evening saw Jamin Tayaba, a former lightweight champion, emerge in a pair of red shorts to battle Erik van der Lee, who came into the fight undefeated. Van der Lee, in black shorts, battled valiantly, but the match belonged to Tayaba in a unanimous decision.
