ST. GEORGE — DOCUTAH International Documentary Film Festival lineup includes the festival’s first 3-D film, “Soldiers’ Stories,” which pairs 3-D images from World War I with the lives of recent veterans.
“Soldiers’ Stories” will be shown twice in St. George:
- Sept. 9, 7 p.m. at Megaplex Pineview 10 theaters, 2376 Red Cliffs Drive in St. George
- Sept. 10, 7 p.m. at Megaplex Sunset 8 theaters, 1091 N. Bluff St.
“The 30-minute film pairs century-old stereoscopic photos taken in the trenches by World War I soldiers with narration by Mickey Rooney and voiceover from recent American vets (describing) loneliness, loss, intense camaraderie, bad food, bad weather, the adrenaline rush of combat,” a review in Deadline said.

“Although the stories which veterans tell always tug at our hearts and inspire our admiration for their courage, this film, which combines images from long ago with stories as recent as our current wars, brings a true understanding of the common experience of the soldier,” said Phil Tuckett, artistic director for DOCUTAH, associate professor at Dixie State University and director of DSU Films. “This is a remarkable addition to the 2015 Festival.”

The 2015 DOCUTAH International Documentary Film Festival is held at Dixie State University in St. George. The 2015 festival, which kicks off on Sept. 7 with a special inaugural gala at the newly renovated Electric Theater, 68 E. Tabernacle Street in St. George, runs from Sept. 8-12 and includes filmmaker chats, seminars and gala events, all within the beautiful scenery of Southern Utah’s red rock country.
