VERNAL — It wasn’t until the third quarter when Pine View High School football finally found the end zone, but the Panthers defense kept Uintah off the scoreboard the entire game to get the 23-0 win Friday night in Uintah County.
Pine View picked up a fumble on the Utes 33-yard line to set up its first touchdown, a 20-yard pass from Riley Livingston to Mason Wiley.
PV head coach Ray Hosner said Uintah “stacked the box with seven guys,” and dared Pine View to throw it, so Livingston threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Lance Mandrigues to open up the field. Kobe Topalian joined the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run, also in the third quarter.
Defensively, Pine View held strong, not allowing any points all game and forcing a safety in the fourth quarter to make the score 23-0. The Utes never sniffed the end zone, managing just 104 yards of offense, including just 16 rushing yards. The Utes averaged just 2.7 yards per play in the game and had just six first downs.
PV, 2-0, had 374 yards, including 282 passing by Livingston on 20 of 34 attempts. Mandrigues finished the game with six catches for 125 yards.
Pine View plays Manti High School next Friday at 7 p.m. at Panther Stadium.
