ST. GEORGE – The courtyard at Ancestor Square in downtown St. George is getting a facelift. The courtyard is home to many community events such as the Downtown Farmers Market and the Zion Brewing Company Jazz Garden at George, Streetfest on Main every first Friday of the month.
The courtyard is being torn up and completely rebuilt with new seating, new sod and a bigger water feature, project manager Garth Warner said. The construction is being done by of Pride Landscapes of LaVerkin.
The new water feature will be bigger, about 40-feet long, and include two waterfalls with 4-foot drops.
Ten new benches, 6-7 feet long, will provide a lot more seating, and new sod will offer a softer place for people to put down blankets, Warner said.
Construction started Wednesday and is expected to last until about Sept. 25, Warner said.
The Downtown Farmers Market will be held in the parking lot on the north side of Ancestor Square near the Painted Pony Restaurant, market Manager Jill Gardella said, for the next three Saturdays.
The market will skip the weekend of the St. George Marathon, Gardella said, and be held in the courtyard again beginning Oct. 10.
