ST. GEORGE – Police arrested a St. George man Monday on charges of forcible sexual abuse, forcible sodomy and aggravated kidnapping of a 20-year-old woman with a diminished mental capacity.

Detectives responded to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George Sunday to conduct a follow-up interview on a sex offense case.

The 20-year-old woman told police that she was forced into a travel trailer by 48-year-old Rodney Ben Trujillo who had sexually touched her and forced her to engage in an act of sodomy, according to a probable cause statement filed by the St. George Police Department in support of the arrest.

The woman alleged Trujillo concealed her from people who were looking for her after they believed she was missing, the statement said, and that he subsequently told her not to tell them about the incident.

Detectives located Trujillo sleeping in a vehicle on the 1700 East block of 280 North in St. George. During an interview with authorities, Trujillo allegedly admitted to the incident.

“(Trujillo) subsequently stated he did go with the victim into his trailer and they viewed pornography, engaged in sexual touching, touching her breasts and buttocks, and that he did conceal her from family and friends who were searching for her,” the arresting officer wrote in the statement.

Trujillo further stated that he told the woman not to tell anyone about the incident, according to the statement of probable cause, and that he did know the victim had Down Syndrome.

Trujillo was arrested and booked into the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility.

He has been charged with two first-degree felony counts of aggravated kidnapping and forcible sodomy, as well as second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse.

His bail for release pending trial stands at $60,000. He is scheduled to make his initial court appearance Tuesday afternoon.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
