CEDAR CITY — The Calvary Chapel is sponsoring a night of Halloween-free fun Saturday in the Southern Utah University parking lot at 300 W. Center Street in Cedar City from 5-8 p.m. The night will include music, bounce houses and lots of candy and prizes.
Calvary Chapel Pastor Joe Carroll was inspired by other communities to start the event after moving to Utah in 2000. Once a small event held in front of his house, the festival drew about 1,500 people last year, Carroll said.
Carroll said the event is a safe place not focused on darkness.
Music from Crossover FM 88.9, a Christian radio station the church runs, will be playing during the festival.
There will be all sorts of games for the kids, from donut-eating to basketball, as well as bible-themed games, like Stand up for Jesus. There will also be free cotton candy and popcorn, Carroll said, as well as the free bounce houses.
Because of an SUU home football game that same day, the festival has been moved to a new spot in the parking lot by the P.E. Building. Carroll said he is excited about the larger space.
Carroll said the event couldn’t be possible without either the church community or the different parts of the community in the city who help make the night happen.
“I’m just so impressed by the effort the church puts in,” Carroll said. “We want to bring community awareness to the next generation, whether that be the church or public servants.”
