Wind Advisory issued for Washington County

SOUTHERN UTAH – The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a “Wind Advisory” for parts of Washington County in effect from 6 p.m. Thursday to noon Friday.

Affected area

Utah’s Dixie, except for the immediate St. George area. This wind advisory is for Zion National Park, the Interstate 15 corridor including the St. George Airport, and western Washington County including along the Bull Valley, Pine Valley and Beaver Dam mountains.

Winds

Northeast 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. Winds in St. George will be considerably lighter.

Timing

Developing around sunset, strongest late Thursday night, before gradually diminishing late Friday morning.

Impacts

Strong cross winds will affect west to east routes in the area. High profile vehicles and those towing trailers will be especially impacted. Winds sensitive operations may be affected.

Precautionary preparedness actions

A wind advisory means that sustained wind speeds of at least 31 mph or gusts of 45 mph are expected. Motorists in the advisory area should be prepared for sudden gusty cross winds which can make driving difficult.
