SOUTHERN UTAH – A Richfield man died Monday when a semitractor-trailer collided with a semi dump truck on state Route 28 in Levan, causing “extreme damage” to both semitrucks.
At 8:18 a.m. Monday, a dump truck with an empty dump trailer, owned by Staker Parsons, was traveling south on SR-28 near milepost 20.5, according to a media statement issued by Utah Highway Patrol.
The driver of the dump truck drove off the right side of the road and overcorrected, according to the statement. The dump truck came back onto the roadway and crossed into oncoming northbound traffic.
Traveling north in the same location, 56-year-old Rodric “Brett” Ross, of Richfield, was hauling wood chips in a semi owned by Badlands Trucking out of Richfield, the UHP statement read. The semi was being lent to a tree chipping company at the time of the incident.
The semi hauling wood chips T-boned the dump truck as it crossed the roadway, causing “extreme damage” to both trucks, according to UHP.
Ross was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the collision.
The driver of the dump truck was transported to Central Valley Regional Hospital in Nephi with unknown injuries.
