ST. GEORGE — Missing a curve in the road was costly for a driver late Monday afternoon, as his car hit a pillar in front of a Bloomington residence about 5:30 p.m. and bounced back into the middle of Bloomington Drive East.

“There was a car coming out from the left side of us (eastbound),” said 8-year-old Ty Hinton of St. George, apparently the only witness to the accident. “It came and hit one of our garbage cans, that hit the other garbage can down, and then it hit right where the pillar is.”

That car, a Toyota, then bounced back into the middle of the eastbound lane in front of 2841 S. Bloomington Drive East with all its airbags deployed.

The driver was apparently looking at his GPS unit, St. George Police Sgt. Tyler Cowan said. He was having trouble finding where he wanted to go and missed the curve.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George and cited for improper lookout, Cowan said.

Units from the St. George Police Department, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross ambulance responded to the accident.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
