ST. GEORGE — A hook, line and sinker is all you need to have fun at the annual St. George Fishing Derby at the Tawa Ponds on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children ages 12  and under are invited to experience the chance to catch “the big one.”

The annual Fishing Derby is free to the public, and fishing poles and bait will be available at no cost for children who do not own their own poles. Participants and spectators are encouraged to bring a cooler for their catches and a chair for seating.

Throughout the Fishing Derby, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources will be conducting brief fishing etiquette lessons, and donated prizes will be given out to participating children. The goal of derby sponsors is to ensure that all area children have the opportunity to experience the simple joy of fishing.

The St. George Fishing Derby is co-sponsored by the Southern Utah Anglers, Dixie Wildlife Federation, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, Hurst General Store, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Virgin River Program, SCI members and the City of St. George.
