ST. GEORGE — A head-on collision on Thursday morning brought traffic to a standstill on River Road and sent one man to the hospital.
At approximately 9 a.m., emergency personnel received reports of a two-vehicle collision near the intersection of River Road and East 100 South. Upon arrival, police and emergency responders found a head-on collision had occurred between an adult male driver of a silver Toyota pickup and an adult female driver of a white Toyota minivan, St. George Police Officer Joe Deim said.
“We had a white minivan that was in the left turn lane,” Deim said. “She was turning into Freddy’s car wash here, didn’t see a southbound truck. They ended up colliding head-on.”
Deim said that the driver of the Toyota pickup was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center with unspecified injuries.
The driver of the Toyota minivan was cited for failure to yield.
Southbound traffic on River Road was narrowed to a single lane while the accident was under investigation and stopped in both lanes for several minutes while a tow truck removed the Toyota minivan.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Airbags were deployed in the Toyota minivan but not on the Toyota pickup.
St. George Police Department, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance all responded to the incident.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
