23-year-old man killed in ATV accident in Washington City

WASHINGTON CITY — A man is dead Saturday following an all-terrain vehicle accident in Washington City.

The ATV rider, a 23-year-old man from Washington City, was riding alongside another ATV rider in the sandy dunes in the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve just north of Green Springs.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., for reasons investigators are still trying to determine, the man drove off a steep, rocky embankment, Washington City Police Public Information Officer Ed Kantor said. Whether or not the man saw the embankment is unclear, he said.

The man, wearing no head protection, landed near a sandy wash north of Fairway Drive.

The second ATV rider was able to notify authorities, reporting the accident victim was unconscious and not breathing as a result of the crash.

Life Flight was launched and dispatched to the scene as first responders searched for the man’s location.

Medical personnel arrived and administered medical aid, Kantor said, but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

Washington City Police, Washington City Fire, Life Flight, Washington County Search and Rescue, Bureau of Land Management and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Enough is enough! They need to ban all ATV’s! This senseless death could have been avoided had there been a law banning the use of ATV’s in Washington County.
Remember, if even one life can be saved, we owe it to the children.

RealMcCoy, someone’s child died and here you are with your glib and pretentious b.s. What an ass you are.

And a ban on ATV’s could have prevented this.
