ST. GEORGE – A woman was taken to the hospital following an early morning collision on Bluff Street in St. George Thursday.
Around 6:45 a.m., a Honda Pilot SUV was southbound on Bluff Street and moving into the turn lane to go left onto 700 South. The Honda’s driver was following behind another vehicle that turned left ahead of her, and while moving into the turn she did not see an oncoming northbound Kia Optima.
“She said she didn’t see the northbound vehicle,” St. George Police Officer Lona Trombley said. “(The driver) said she wasn’t distracted, she wasn’t on her phone. She didn’t know why she didn’t see the vehicle.”
The impact crumpled the front of the Kia up to the windshield, said police Sgt. Craig Harding, who responded to the crash. The driver of the Kia, a 21-year-old woman, was not visibly harmed in the incident but was taken by others to the hospital to have a doctor check on her.
The woman driving the Honda received non-life threatening injuries, Harding said, and was transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George for care. She was ultimately cited for failure to yield.
Both the north and southbound lanes on Bluff Street at the 700 South intersection had solid green lights in their respective directions when the collision occurred, Harding said.
Both vehicles were disabled and had to be towed from the scene.
St. George Fire Department also responded to incident.
