ST. GEORGE — When it comes to Erin Hanson’s recent collection of landscape paintings, inspiration came from her many travels and explorations across the country’s national parks. Hanson’s “Painted Parks” collection of landscapes is currently on display in St. George Art Museum’s main gallery through May 28 in honor of the National Park Service’s centennial celebration.

The pieces found in this collection feature several of Hanson’s favorite travel spots: Arches National Park, Joshua Tree National Park, Zion National Park, Cedar Breaks National Park and Glacier National Park, among others.

“I love the intense, saturated colors I see at dawn and sunset,” Hanson said. “So many of my paintings are re-imagined creations of those times of the day. I use vivid colors to excite the imagination and allow viewers to explore their own experiences and dreams of the wide outdoors. My thick, chunky style of laying on paint strokes has an impressionistic feel that makes you want to reach out and touch the canvas. I want my paintings to be as alive and vibrant as the scenery that inspired them.”

Hanson will be donating 10 percent of the proceeds from the sale of her exhibited contemporary impressionist paintings towards the preservation of Zion National Park, the closest national park to St. George and a location that has inspired dozens of works.

National Parks are a treasure we can’t afford to neglect,” Hanson said. “My park landscapes are more than artistic expressions: they are an invitation to enjoy, protect and preserve these amazing natural resources for future generations.”
