ST. GEORGE – Snow Canyon won its sixth straight game to stay atop Region 9, while Dixie and Desert Hills also emerged victorious Friday to stay within striking distance of the Warriors. Here’s a look at the night’s action:

Snow Canyon 2, Pine View 1

After falling behind early, the Warriors scored twice in the first half and held on to beat the Panthers 2-1 Friday at PV. The win was the sixth straight for SC, which leads the region by three points.

Bo Bundy scored off a cross from Michael Cardenas with 32:27 left in the first half to give the Panthers (1-5) the lead. Goalkeeper Alex Castro made a great save of a shot by Kevin Chillin to keep that score at about the 28^th minute.

Angel Muniz scored off an assist from Yetzel Carillo in the 25^th minute and Muniz scored on a 20-yard blast with 4:34 remaining in the half for the lead.

The second half was a defensive affair for both teams. The Panthers only managed three decent shots with one sailing high, another wide and goalkeeper Brayden Brough stopping another in the final two minutes.

“Soccer-wise, we played well and got the win,” noted Snow Canyon assistant coach Nyle Ortiz. “Brayden Brough did very well today.” Brough played the entire time after splitting time with Quinn Hargis last game. Hargis was sick on Friday.

“That’s the beauty of being blessed,” Ortiz said. “We have four keepers who are varsity-caliber.”

Ortiz praised the play of Dallen Moody, Richard Vichi, Parker Jenkins, Adrian Torres and Kolton Barber defensively.

“They’re good, front to back,” Pine View coach Sam Johnston said of the Warriors. “That’s why they’re where they are (in first place).”

After giving up two goals in the first half, the Panthers clamped down again the Warriors in the second half. That pleased Johnston since three of his starting defenders were in and out of the lineup.

“Whoever we plugged in there stepped in and did a good job,” he said.

Dixie 1, Cedar 0

Tyler Bennett assisted Av’ry Green on the lone goal for the Flyers (5-1), who overcame cold weather to get the win.

“It snowed almost the entire game,” noted Dixie coach Burt Myers. “Both teams had other opportunities.”

But, noted Scott Kamachi, the coach of the Redmen (0-5-1), neither could get the ball into the goal.

Ethan Poulton had the shutout for Dixie.

Desert Hills 2, Hurricane 0

Hunter Spray and Walker Heaton each had goals and Isaiah Hackett had the shutout for the Thunder (4-2).

Desert Hills scored its first goal on a cross from Kanon Heaton to Spray, who volleyed back to Heaton, who then finished it.

“Desert Hills dominated the second half, but came up short of finishing another goal,” noted Thunder coach Benji Nelson.

Hurricane dropped to 1-4-1.

Next Tuesday’s games include Cedar at Snow Canyon, Desert Hills at Dixie and Hurricane at Pine View.
