ST. GEORGE — A woman lost control of her Subaru Forester Thursday afternoon, crashed over a curb, through some bushes and ended up partly lodged inside Wingers Roadhouse Grill on River Road.

“A red Subaru, driven by a female in her 80s, pulled out of Fabulous Freddies, made a right hand turn to go south on River Road,” St. George Police Lieutenant Joe Hartman said. “Some point in time between there and Wingers she lost control of the vehicle, went up on the curb, over the sidewalk, through the shrubs and rocks and embedded the vehicle into the front of Wingers.”

Customers had been sitting at a table close to where the driver of the Subaru entered the restaurant with her vehicle and had minor injuries, Hartman said. They refused transport.

Kaylee Chambers was following behind the driver of the Subaru and witnessed the incident unfold.

“I pulled out of Fabulous Freddies, right behind her,” Chambers said, “She just got her car washed. I was just right behind her and I slammed on my brakes ’cause I saw her swerving left, right and then all of a sudden it did like a whole circle, went up and over the curb, and then right into the Wingers building.”

Shocked by what she had seen, Chambers pulled over and raced to assist the driver of the Subaru, helping her get out of the vehicle.

“She just asked me ‘what happened’, and I told her ‘you just swerved left and right’, she was like ‘I had no control over my car,'” Chambers said.

The driver was cited for unsafe lane travel, Hartman said.

The vehicle was removed from the restaurant and towed from the scene.

St. George Police, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the incident.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
