Cotton Days activities brighten Washington City with smiling faces, colorful parade entries

WASHINGTON CITY — Dark skies and damp streets didn’t stop Washington City residents and guests from enjoying a day full of festivities Saturday as Cotton Days events continued despite drizzly weather, bringing smiles to the faces of those who attended.

The community lined the streets for the annual parade which featured fun and varied entries that included city royalty, youth groups, local businesses, patriotic and pioneer tributes, giant tractors and more.

Events were hosted at several locations around Washington City including a pancake breakfast, a festival with carnival-style games, booths and activities, a tractor pull, live entertainment and a classic car show.

Cotton Days is an annual event that pays tribute to the early history of Washington City. Activities are held throughout an almost two-week period, with many activities focusing on historical events and markers in the city.

Cotton Days continues Sunday through May 7; and May 13-14.

Continuing Cotton Days activities are scheduled as follows:

May 1 | Fireside “A Trail Through Time,” 6 p.m. | Historical Museum, 25 E Main Street, Washington City

May 2 | Cotton Days Family Swim Party, 5-8 p.m. | Washington City Community Center, 350 N. Community Center Drive, Washington City

The Community Center is turning 8 years old, and the community is invited for a night of family fun to celebrate. There will be a variety of activities for the whole family, it will be a night community members won’t want to miss. There will be great discounts for annual memberships and opportunities to win prizes. This evening will provide the whole family with the opportunity to enjoy the facility for free. Water walker balls, foam bubbles, vendor booths, live music and light refreshments all included. For more details please visit cottondays.org

May 7 | Iron Man Pancake Breakfast, 8-10 a.m. | Corner of Main Street and Buena Vista Street, see map for directions

The Ironman 70.3 St. George is coming and Washington City wants everyone to come out and cheer on the participants as they bike through the city. A free pancake breakfast will be provided. This is a great opportunity to show Ironman participants how Washington City supports them.

May 13-14 | Golf Tournament, 9 a.m. | Green Springs Golf Course, 588 N. Green Spring Dr., Washington City

The tournament features a shotgun start in a three-man scramble format. Entry fee is $125 per person for the two-day tournament. Price includes green fees, cart prizes, lunch and the payoff. See the event page for details or call 435-673­-7888
