DIAMOND VALLEY – A vehicle fire in Diamond Valley Friday afternoon burned a 1995 Jeep to the ground and sent clouds of black smoke into the air.

Firefighters were called at 1:49 p.m. to a vehicle fire on Jade Drive in the Diamond Valley area of Washington County.

The Jeep belonged to a local resident, Diamond Valley Fire Chief Brent Theobald said.

The Jeep’s owner was driving on Jade Drive between Diamond Valley Drive West and Cinder Cone Lane when his vehicle caught fire.

The Jeep was a total loss.

“It’s a sad day for this gentleman who lost his Jeep,” Theobald said. “We have no idea what caused the fire.”

The Jeep’s driver said that he heard a popping sound and “all of a sudden flames started coming out.”

The fire occurred just around the corner from the Diamond Valley Fire Station which is usually not manned. The fire department is comprised of volunteers who are paged out when fires occur.

Six firefighters and three fire trucks responded to the incident along with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

“We had a good response from the fire crews today,” Theobald said, “we are pleased with their performances.”

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
