WASHINGTON — Failure to yield led to a two-vehicle collision on Telegraph Street in Washington City late Thursday night, adding another crash to one of Utah’s most commonly reported statistics when it comes to traffic accidents.
Just before 10 p.m. officers were dispatched to a reported two-car collision on East Telegraph Street and 300 East, Ed Kantor, public information officer for the Washington City Police Department, said.
Upon arrival officers found two vehicles with extensive damage; a red Honda minivan stopped in the middle of the intersection and a Dodge pickup truck nearby, Kantor said.
The woman driving the Honda was traveling westbound on East Telegraph Street and began to turn left on 300 East. Before she completed the turn, she struck a Dodge pickup truck heading east on Telegraph, Kantor said.
The impact sent the Honda spinning out of control until it finally landed in the middle of the intersection, Kantor said.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged after the collision and were towed from the scene.
The intersection was initially blocked until officers were able to divert traffic around the scene giving emergency responders time to clear debris and to check for injuries.
All occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, Kantor said, and no injuries were reported.
The driver of the Honda was cited for failing to yield on a left turn, he said.
Washington City Police Department, Washington City Fire Department, and Gold Cross Ambulance responded and tended to the scene.
Crash statistics show that 21 percent of all crashes in Utah are caused by drivers failing to yield, according to a report compiled in the Utah Department of Pubic Safety’s 2014 Utah Crash Summary, the most recent report to date.
