ST. GEORGE — The Docutah International Documentary Film Festival returns to Southern Utah Tuesday through Sept. 10 with 62 documentary films submitted from filmmakers from Southern Utah and across the globe.
Presented by Dixie State University, Docutah showcases the best in documentary filmmaking with screenings of each of the selected films, intimate filmmaker chats and special events, all set against the backdrop of Southern Utah’s famous crimson cliffs.
The 62 films selected for this year’s festival cover a wide range of human experiences from current events to quirky personalities of ordinary people and inspirational stories that highlight the resiliency of the human spirit, a press release for the event states.
“Each year, we think the films submitted could not possibly surpass the previous year and each year the quality astonishes us. It takes real passion to venture into the art of documentary, which is often a lonely pursuit in a world filled with commercialized studio films. That passion certainly shines through in this year’s selections,” Docutah Executive Director Phil Tuckett said. “The variety of subjects will bring audiences to places they have never known and allow them to experience a wide range of emotions from tears to laughter to inspiration.”

Each film will vie for a coveted Raven Award. The Raven, known for its intelligence and curiosity, was chosen as the symbol of Docutah.
The Docutah webpage says:
Ravens watch everything and everyone and through that observation have learned how to thrive in all manner of environments and climates. Like the documentarian that chronicles and observes then enlightens us about ourselves through stories. Ravens are found throughout the world, thus representing the international scope of Docutah.
This year’s festival will also include five additional screenings of films from the Independent Film Channel’s series hosted by Helen Mirren, “Documentary Now!”
Advance tickets for Docutah are available now and can be purchased online or at the Cox Auditorium Box Office located on the DSU campus at 375 S. 700 East, St. George.
All event passes are $40 and are only available until Tuesday. Day pass tickets are $15 and single film tickets are $10. DSU students are free.
Day passes will be available for purchase during the festival at the Eccles Ticket Office in the Eccles Fine Arts Center on the DSU Campus, 225 S. 700 East, St. George.
The Eccles Ticket Office will be open at the following times:
- Tuesday, 1-6 p.m.
- Wednesday-Friday, 3-9 p.m.
- Sept. 10, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
