CEDAR CITY – A 53-year-old female driver was ejected out the passenger window Tuesday night after rolling her vehicle, authorities said.
Emergency responders were dispatched at around 6:40 p.m. to 5500 S. Old Highway 91 on reports a woman had been ejected from a white 2003 Ford Focus after she rolled the vehicle twice, said Iron County Sheriff Deputy Devin Lauritzen.
She was transported to the hospital for minor injuries and possibly a broken arm, Lauritzen said. The woman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The woman’s 6-year-old niece and a Boston terrier were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The child was wearing a seat belt and did not sustain any injuries, according to police. The dog also reported to be okay, police said.
The driver was traveling north from Kanarraville when she drifted off at a curve and overcorrected, causing her to lose control of the vehicle.
“So she drifted off the road at the curve and hit the dirt. She then overcorrected. The car skidded then across the roadway and at one point went sideways,” Lauritzen said. “The vehicle hit the barbwire fence and rolled twice landing upright.”
Authorities had not yet had an opportunity to interview the driver so were unsure what initially caused her to drift off the road.
At the time of publication, no citations had been issued.
