ST. GEORGE — Bragging rights are on the line Wednesday night as the Hurricane Police Department takes on the Hurricane Valley Fire District in the “Guns and Hoses” basketball showdown.
Starting at 7 p.m. at Hurricane High School, the basketball game between the cops and the firefighters is a charity event, benefiting the Hurricane Valley Foundation and the Utah 10-33 foundation.
“It’s a friendly rivalry,” Hurricane Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said. “As we work out there on the streets together, we form this bond. And this charity event allows us to come together and have some fun.”
When asked if he would be playing, Buell said that he planned on it.
The Hurricane Valley Foundation was established by Chief Tom Kuhlmann of the Hurricane Valley Fire District in November 2012 to better the quality of life for families in Hurricane Valley and the surrounding areas through a variety of community-involved projects and programs.
The Utah 10-33 foundation, named after the radio code that means an officer is in urgent need of help, assists the families of Utah’s fallen officers, providing assistance, scholarships and support to the families left behind.
Admission to the Guns and Hoses showdown is $5 for adults, or the entire family can attend for $15. Only cash will be accepted.
