His score also helped the Pine View Panthers clinch the region title. Dixie, led by Pierce Goodwin, finished second. Desert Hills and Hurricane also will represent southern Utah at the state tournament next week at Soldier Hollow in Midway.

Pine View had four of the top five golfers in the region in Schone, Jaden Milne, Trajen Kidd and Dakota Millward.

Schone placed first in seven different region tournaments this season and will be a contender for the state title next week. He placed third last season at the Soldier Hollow course with a two-day score of 137, seven strokes under par.

The Panthers have won two straight region titles, but will have to play their best to have a shot at perennial powerhouse Park City, which has win eight consecutive state boys golf titles and is located less than 30 miles from Midway.

Pine View placed fourth as a team in 2015, 28 strokes behind the Miners. Snow Canyon, which did not qualify for state this season as a team, was the top finisher last season for Region 9. Led by Triston Gardner, the Warriors took third.

The state tournament is a two-day event and is Oct. 5-6 on Soldier Hollow’s Silver course.
