Updated 9:25 p.m. Services were restored ahead of schedule at approximately 9:10 p.m. thanks to quick work by area service provider South Central Communications, Kane County Sheriff Tracey Glover said.

The cause of the outage was due to a break in a fiber optic line after a creek bank caved off, Glover said.

ST. GEORGE — An outage involving internet and phone services is currently affecting residents in southern Kane county and northern Arizona.

The outage is a result of a split in a fiber optic line north of Kanab near Moqui Cave, Richfield Department of Public Safety’s Kristi Hardy said.

Authorities from Kane County Sheriff’s Office in the area are estimating that services will be restored by 10 p.m. Mountain Standard Time, Hardy said.

The outage is affecting an area stretching from Kanab to Page, Arizona.

Calls to area police and Kane County Sheriff’s Office, including emergency 911 calls, were not connecting, leaving callers with busy signals or temporary outage messages. Some 911 calls were reportedly rerouted to Richfield Department of Public Safety.

Kane County Hospital in Kanab was also without internet or LAN line services.

The cause of the split in the fiber optic line is unknown at the time of this report. Area service provider South Central Communications has yet to release any information about the outage.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
