ST. GEORGE — The Dove Center recently welcomed four new members to its Board of Trustees – Natalie Ashby, Thomas Bayles, Tammie Richeson and Amori Shaw – all of St. George. The Center also announced tickets for the Dove Center’s annual fundraiser gala are now available for purchase.

New and outgoing board members

“Our board is continuing to develop and I am eager to learn what these newest members will bring to our organization,” Cindy Richardson, Dove Center Board of Trustees president, said.

The new trustees join existing board members Leslie Bowler, Lori Burgess, Shonie Christensen, Debra Townsend and Ruth Weniger, along with Executive Committee members Richardson; Teri Koenig, vice president; Sharon Hoiekvam, secretary; and Mary Barth, treasurer.

Trustees work closely with Dove Center staff and play an active role on various committees such as community partnerships, prevention education, marketing and communications, volunteering and fundraising.

I can’t say enough about how much I appreciate the experience, wisdom and dedication of our trustees,” Dove Center Executive Director Lindsey Boyer said. “The work we do with survivors of domestic and sexual violence is so vital to our community, and our trustees do so much to help us expand our reach and improve delivery of services to those who need it most.”

Departing the Dove Center board this year are Joanie Ayers, Calob Johnston, Andrea Roberts and Pat Shoemaker-Glessner, who has worked with the Dove Center in some capacity for over 20 years.

“It is difficult to say goodbye to individuals who have been such an integral part of the center’s work. But we will always be grateful for their contributions,” Richardson said.

Board members meet monthly and may serve up to two, three-year terms. To learn more about board service, email [email protected] or call 435-628-1204.

Dove center gala announced

The Dove Center also announced tickets are now on sale for its popular, annual gala to be held March 18, 2017, at the SunRiver St. George Ballroom, presented by Development Solutions Realty.

This year’s event, called “Speak Up For Change: Ending Sexual and Domestic Violence One Voice at a Time,” will feature Desirae and Deondra Brown from “The 5 Browns.”

Desirae and Deondra have performed over 500 concerts across the United States and around the world as soloists, duo pianists, and as members of “The 5 Browns.”

As survivors of sexual abuse, they have also formed The Foundation for Survivors of Abuse (FSA), a non-profit to help create a face for victims of abuse everywhere.

“Desirae and Deondra are both wonderful examples of how their combined voices have created change and have helped fight against sexual assault and domestic abuse. Their message of hope, courage and strength is an inspiration to us all,” Boyer said.

The event will begin with a social hour and silent auction, followed by a beautifully catered sit-down dinner, after which the acclaimed Brown sisters will speak and perform.

The gala is intended to raise money to ensure the continuation of critical services to survivors free of charge. Tickets for Dove Center’s annual gala are now on sale for $100 each, and can be purchased by visiting Dove Center’s website.
