ST. GEORGE – Leading members of Utah’s Democratic Party will be visiting St. George on Jan. 6 as a part of a month-long “listening tour” in order to hear feedback from Democrats across the state. The tour is part of an effort to reorganize and refocus the party as it moves into 2017 and beyond.
An online survey is available through Jan. 31 for party members who want to offer feedback but may not be able to attend one of the tour’s physical stops.
“We look forward to receiving feedback from Democrats across the state,” said Peter Corroon, Utah Democratic Party chair, adding that 2017 will be a rebuilding year for the party based upon lessons learned during 2016.
“We want to make sure all voices are heard and that all cross sections of our party have a seat at the table to help guide the direction of the Utah Democratic Party not just in 2017 but also looking ahead to the 2018 midterm and legislative elections and to 2020,” Corroon said.
Corroon and other party leaders will be on hand at each stop of the tour to take feedback from Utah Democrats in townhall-style meetings.
Other locations along the tour include Moab, Provo, Ogden, Logan and Salt Lake City.
The tour will be starting Jan. 6 in St. George at the Garden Center on the campus of Dixie State University at 5:30 p.m.
Party members are also encouraged and invited to apply to be a member of the party’s “restructuring task force,” officials said in a press release.
“The goal of the task force is to propose changes to the Utah Democratic Party Constitution and Bylaws that will make the Utah Democratic Party a more open and welcoming organization, as well as refocus what the mission of the Utah Democratic Party is, and should be,” officials said.
Members of the restructuring task force will be selected after filling out an application and will be appointed by the Democratic Party chair, with approval from the full executive committee.
The online survey will be conducted through Jan. 31, with feedback being used to help guide the task force in their proposed changes.
“2016 was a tough year for Utah Democrats,” Carroon said on the party’s website. “We won some races, and we lost some races, but we worked harder and smarter than ever before. And even though we didn’t see the results we wanted, the fight isn’t over.”

If, at the state level, both parties met together to amend the Constitution limiting all three branches of government to a single fixed term of 6-8 years, we could effectively end the career politician doing nothing beyond amassing personal power and wealth.
That will not happen because the career politicians have taught Party members to hate one another.
Neither party is the problem, our elected and appointed representatives are the problem.

When they start listening to their constituents and NOT the career politician, they may get the party refocused, but until then, they will continue to wander aimlessly.
A good start would be better candidates.
Without being labeled some kind of phobic, Misty Snow, however good her platform, was just not going to be elected in Utah.
Is Weinholtz Mormon and an RM? Ex-Bishop?
Maybe they could all go and refocus themselves in, say, Zimbabwe?
What kills them is being the party of pet issues: gays, lgbtqrs, transexuals, minority whining(black thugs matter), hardcore abortionists and feminists, amnesty for illegals–on and on. Pet issues galore. I’d say they need to start from scratch.
From lurking around leftist sites I can tell that even the vast majority off dems and libs want the illegals gone gone gone. We’re all tired of it. There’s a reason countries have borders.
What Ronald Reagan said over 50 years ago is applicable to today: “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party. The party left me.”
Exactly Henry I know plenty of people who used to be Democrat but feel their anti gun, anti Christian and pro abortion stances were too much and were left clinging to their Bibles and guns.
556poor and you have it right. Carbon County used to be a Democratic stronghold. Democratic but moderate to conservative. Now Republican and last Democratic state legislator outside of Salt Lake County was defeated in November.

Adopt more fiscally conservative policies and support socially libertarian ideals. Basically, just do the opposite of what you’ve been doing for the last 15 years. Oh, and don’t support/promote unethical or possibly criminal career politicians. It might also be wise to stop disregarding working class Caucasians as ignorant deplorables.
For one, quit with the identity politics. I don’t agree with you on an issue so you call me all sorts of disgusting names. Another thing – read the Constitution. It says what it says. I’ve read it a lot of times and still can’t find the part about abortion, gay issues, gender issues or a host of other “unconstitutional” things.
Lose your abject infatuation with socialism. It doesn’t work. I realize that you think that it will work “this time around” because it is “you” who are implementing it, but it won’t. You aren’t going to change human nature. People want freedom to live their lives and keep what they earn. Lose that mind set. I also realize that you socialists have found the Big … of taxpayer-funded utopia. So you take a class of people who are in poverty, you keep them there by telling them that it’s “the other side” who is keeping them down, so they keep voting for you, and you get to keep your place at the Big …. You know it and we know it. You have manipulated our school system into teaching the kids that this is the truth, so they know no better.
If you want to perform social experiments, how about this for an idea: Instead of striving to bring The United States of America down to the level of, say, The Ivory Coast – how about going to The Ivory Coast (or any other poverty-stricken nation on earth) and strive to bring them up to OUR level of existence. You want to be the rich and wealthy ones while your serfs are suffering in the dirt. The American people have spoken. Your game has been called. Your time is over. Stop crying and take a good hard look at your inner self. Just who the … do you think you are?
