ST. GEORGE — Thursday featured two teams in Region 9 playing on their home fields. With region play set to begin next week, this was the one of the last chances for these teams to work out the kinks before competing for a region title.

Here is a recap of the games:

East 1, Snow Canyon 0

After beating the Davis Darts on Tuesday 2-1, the Snow Canyon Warriors girls soccer team fell just short of keeping the momentum, falling 1-0 to the Leopards on Thursday.

Warriors head coach Kenny Kunde was still in high spirits after the game, saying that his team played really well, despite the loss.

“East gave us a very different look than Davis did on Tuesday,” he said “They were able to get to the ball faster and came out with a lot of pressure. We played a little flat coming off that big win and struggled a little with our passing, but our defense did very well to keep the shots away. I don’t think that either team had more than six or seven shots on goal for the game.”

The loss puts the Warriors at a record of 1-1-1 before region play is set to begin. Playing teams such as Davis, which was on a 44-game win streak before the loss to the Warriors, and East, who made it to the 4A state championship game last year, have solidified Snow Canyon as perhaps the team to beat in Region 9.

Snow Canyon had one chance in the game from 20 feet out, but the shot missed just to the side of the goal.

“Region 9 is always difficult. The coaches are great and the kids get better and better each year,” Kunde said. “The rivalries are really intense. Teams are going to be better each year. This is probably the toughest region in 4A. I know that people look forward to playing us because they want to give us their best effort … Our girls have to be ready for that. We do expect to compete for a region championship and make a run in the playoffs.”

Snow Canyon will travel to Pine View on Tuesday to take on the Panthers to begin region play. Game time is set at 7:30 p.m.

Syracuse 9 Pine View 1

The Lady Panthers just could not keep up with the Titans in a non-region battle Thursday, losing 9-1 on their home turf.

Ashlyn Hall had a hat trick for Syracuse, which improved to 4-0 on the year. The Titans have outscored their four opponents by a 24-2 margin

The Panther loss puts their record at 0-2-0 with one game left before region play begins.

Pine View will take on Springville on Saturday at Panther Stadium. Game time is set at 7:30 p.m.
