CEDAR CITY — Artist Lynn Gaines, best known for kid-oriented art and illustrations, will be presenting at the Southern Utah Museum of Art Thursday at 7 p.m., where her artwork will also be on exhibit beginning Tuesday through Oct. 28.
Thursday’s presentation is part of Southern Utah University’s Art & Design’s Art Insights series, offered free to the public. SUMA is open daily, Tuesday through Saturday, from noon-6 p.m.
Gaines’ commercial designs are inspired by vintage children’s books along with the colors and shapes of nature. She has recently finished illustrating “A Child’s Introduction to African-American History” by Jabari Asim, which will be released January 2018.
“I like the challenge of making diverse images and I love to illustrate pieces that look like they are stitched,” Gaines wrote in her blog.
Gaines studied illustration and photography at Cleveland Institute of Art, has worked for American Greetings for over 25 years and is now represented by Painted Word.
Art Insights is coordinated during the fall and spring semesters by SUU’s Art & Design faculty. Students and community members meet to experience presentations and discussions by visiting artists and art educators from around the nation who share their work and insights.
