ST. GEORGE — One man was killed and several others injured Sunday afternoon in what authorities called an “active road rage” incident on Interstate 15 southwest of Mesquite, Nevada. Northbound lanes near the incident at milepost 93 are currently closed.
Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the crash involving several vehicles shortly before 1 p.m. PDT.
A man driving south in a silver Jeep on I-15 attempted to pass a black BMW when the Jeep’s driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the left side of the BMW, Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chelsea Stuenkel said.
Upon impact with the BMW, the Jeep crossed over the center median into northbound lanes in front of oncoming traffic where it crashed into a red Mini Cooper, Stuenkel said.
Immediately after, a driver in a Nissan Pathfinder also crashed at the scene.
The adult man driving the Mini Cooper died at the scene. He has not yet been identified by authorities.
The driver of the Jeep and the male and female passengers of the Nissan were transported to the hospital. The severity of their injuries was unknown to police at the time this report was taken.
Authorities are still investigating the crash, Stuenkel said.
“Witnesses on scene will be interviewed that have information on the road rage and what vehicles were involved,” she said.
As of 4 p.m. PDT, the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 were closed at milepost 93 north of Glendale, Nevada. The Nevada Department of Transportation is advising drivers to use alternate routes. Updates on the closure can be found at the NDOT website.

I don’t understand where the suspected road rage is coming from. I read the story twice and it is not mentioned in the story, nor is there an implication of road rage. What am I missing?

I understand the words “suspected” road rage. Just curious on what makes it “suspected”
I’m guessing a gust of wind. Can be pretty windy out there.
What in this article would lead anyone to believe it was suspected road rage. I see nothing that points to road rage, suspected or not.
It could have been wind (as foxy said) , a cell phone, turning on the radio. Was there a witness that saw something that appeared to be road rage?
Did y’all just pull “suspected road rage” out of a hat?

I’ve driven in a lot of bad wind. You slow down if you can’t control your vehicle.
They called it road rage because the bmw and a caddi were boxing the jeep driver in and the jeep floored it to try to pass the bmw and knicked it and was sent spinning into the mini

This was on the Mormon Mesa, apparently. A place where winds gust a lot.
But what alternate routes are they suggesting? There is no alternate route from Glendale to Mesquite that is a paved road (except driving via Alamo and Panaca, way out of the way)!
Why do they suspect road rage? The article describes a very sad accident.

I’m not convinced it’s road rage in the sense of what I think road rage is. It’s frustrating to be box in.
Is getting pissed because cars are boxing you in road rage? If so, then I’m guilty.
Be courteous our there on the roads. Let people pass on the left.
There are a few that talk about the winds. I’m leaning toward an unfortunate accident caused by an unsafe maneuver in windy conditions.
It could have been prevented by people using the right lane to drive and the left lane for passing. Learn the rules of the road and be safe out there.
Road rage is defined as: anger caused by the stress and frustration involved in driving a motor vehicle in difficult conditions. In this specific case, the result was unfortunate and violent. But driving decisions made out of “getting …” would definitely be considered road rage. Regardless of whether or not people are not driving how you would like, it is important to drive safely and defensively, not out of anger. This is especially important in unsafe driving conditions.
My heart goes out to those affected by this crash, however let this be a reminder to all of us the importance of driving defensively, not reactionary.

I appreciate the definition. I have been guilty of road rage a time or two in my 30 years of driving. Ive been frustrated and had to take a deep breath or two. Now that I’m older, I’m not in a rush to do anything.

I was driving home from Tulsa this afternoon. This incident was on my mind. I was watching the way people drive. Weaving in and out of traffic (it’s not even traffic- they were just going the speed limit) I watched a truck next to me lock up his brakes to not hit the vehicle in front of him that slowed down (slowed down for the cop lights in the road)
It was awful.
Pretty common to see cars “parked” in the “fast-lane” getting passed by cars at high speed in the “slow-lane”. I’ve seen these people suddenly wake-up and try to get over while they’re being passed?????????
That is so tragic. So sad for the family of the driver of the mini. 🙁
The jeep tried to pass the BMW on the left shoulder of the south bound lanes and they both ended up in the north bound lanes. In fact, the Jeep ended up on the dirt on past the right shoulder of the north bound lanes. Those of us unlucky enough to be in the north bound lanes headed to St. George were stuck on the freeway for 9 to 10 hours. Worst trip from home from Vegas ever.
Oh and 4 people were arrested.
