ST. GEORGE — The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City issued a wind advisory that forecasts gusts over 45 mph.
The advisory is in effect Friday from noon until 9 p.m., with gusty conditions anticipated in south central Utah, including parts of Washington County.
Affected areas
Areas affected are the Glen Canyon Recreation area, including Lake Powell, the San Rafael Swell generally along and south of Interstate 70 and south central Utah.
Affected cities include Green River, Hanksville, Kanab, Escalante and Bullfrog.
Timing
Southwest winds increasing to 25-35 mph are forecast, with gusts over 45 mph, beginning at noon and lasting until 9 p.m. Friday.
Precautions
Strong winds will cause unsafe boating conditions on Lake Powell, and small boats may be especially prone to capsizing.
Strong crosswinds may also affect vehicle travel including on I-70 and US-89, especially impacting high-profile vehicles and those towing trailers. Blowing dust may impair visibility. High winds may also create hazardous fire conditions, so extra precaution is advised.
