Herriman holds off Snow Canyon to win state rugby title

HERRIMAN – Snow Canyon’s rugby team fell short in the Utah state rugby championships Saturday night as Herriman protected its home pitch and came away with a 26-23 victory.

The contest was the finale of the Utah Youth Rugby State Championships and featured the top two teams in the state. Snow Canyon had advanced to the title game with a 28-17 victory over East, while Herriman beat Olympus 29-5 in Friday’s semifinal.

The championship was for the highest level of youth rugby in Utah, the Varsity Red T1 Playoffs. Snow Canyon’s only two losses this year were to Herriman.

Olympus and East will square off next week for third place.
