ST. GEORGE — Bethany Nelson won the grand prize in the Planet 94.1 “Best Teacher on the Planet Party” Saturday afternoon, taking home $500 for herself and $500 for her school, Coral Cliffs Elementary.
“I never win anything,” Nelson said. “It just makes all of the hard work and effort that you put in to have people appreciate what you do. I am thrilled to be able to win it for myself and for my school.”
She isn’t sure what she will spend the $500 she won on yet, but said she will likely spend some on the school.
Chris and LaRae Nelson from Planet 94.1 hosted the Best Teacher on the Planet Party to honor St. George teachers and their dedication to students. The party was held at the headquarters of the radio station’s parent company, Canyon Media, on Brigham Road.
It’s the 13th year Planet 94.1 has been honoring teachers with appreciation awards. Twenty-eight teachers were nominated – one for each week of the 2017-18 academic year.
“Both Chris and I are parents; we’re both teachers,” LaRae said. “So we have a special place in our heart for teachers and we just feel like they don’t get celebrated enough, and we like to celebrate them and all that they do.”
The 19 teachers in attendance were offered lunch and prizes ranging from one-hour massages to a 55-inch smart TV during the event.
