Erwin Orlo Davenport

Nov. 2, 1931 – May 24, 2018

Erwin Orlo Davenport (Pecos), age 86, passed away in his home May 24, 2018, in St. George, Utah. He was born Nov. 2, 1931, in Panguitch, Utah, to Orlo Pass and Prudence Luetta Partner Davenport. He married Cleone Wallis on Sept. 5, 1956, and their sealing was performed in the St. George temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They recently celebrated their 61st anniversary.

Erwin was known as a hardworking cowboy. He had a warm personality, a great sense of humor and an amazing work ethic. He wasn’t just a carpenter, he was a craftsman. Erwin was a humble man of honesty and integrity. His motto was, “If you are going to do something, do it right.”

Erwin was active in the LDS church and enjoyed serving in various callings. He loved the gospel and gave the best family prayers. He was a veteran of the Korean War and loved his country.

No one would ever call him lazy. Erwin worked at George Seegmiller’s Farm, Ashby & McQuade, Warren Hannig Construction, Chris Chrisman Cabinets and Creative Investments Company.

He enjoyed coaching Little League, riding horses, being outdoors, dutch oven cooking, reading books and riding four-wheelers. He had a gift for working with cattle and knew where every road in Southern Utah led. He loved watching the Utah Jazz, but mostly he loved spending time with his family.

Erwin leaves behind his eternal companion, Cleone Wallis Davenport of St. George, Utah; his children Douglas Erwin (Karlee) Davenport, Durell Jay (Jill) Davenport, Gina (Doug) Prisbrey, Diane (Mark) Wonnacott and Cheryl (Donald) Staheli; his 29 grandchildren and 26.5 great grandchildren.
