Janet Crook

It is with overwhelming sadness that the family of Janet H. Crook announces her sudden passing on June 10 at the age of 71. She passed away peacefully in her sleep while recovering from a heart procedure.

As we reflect on her life, we cannot help but smile about all the treasured memories of laughter and adventure we shared with her. She was happiest spending time with friends and family, no matter the place or activity – family events, overseas travel, ATV trips and just staying home watching movies. Janet could make anything into a fun and meaningful adventure. She was a caring and devoted friend, and her friends meant the world to her.

She had a deep love for animals and adopted many into her family. Everyone who knew her and her cat, Spirit, wanted to come back in their next life as one of her cats.

Janet was raised in Salt Lake City and graduated from West High School. She married three times, sharing different segments of her life with each husband: Melvin Ivie, George McMullen and James Crook. She had three loving children.

She worked for the IRS for 30 years living in Utah and Washington, D.C., before retiring in Missouri. After the passing of her husband James in 2013, she moved back to Utah.

Janet is survived by her mother, Maxine Murray DeVitt; brother Murray (Elona); son Dennis; daughters: Danielle (Craig) and Suzanne (Scott); and her many amazing grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Theodore Hayward, and husband James Crook.

To all who knew Jan, thank you for sharing your lives with her. She treasured each experience you had together. We will miss her greatly.
