ST. GEORGE – A town hall to discuss Utah Proposition 3, which proponents say would expand access to health care to 150,000 Utahns, will be held Thursday at the Family Healthcare Clinic in St. George.
Proposition 3 would expand Medicaid to individuals earning less than $17,000 per year or parents earning less than $34,000 per year for a family of four. This measure would raise the sales tax on nongrocery items in Utah by 0.15 percent to cover the cost of the expansion.
Proposition 3 would bring home nine federal dollars for every state dollar spent, which is $800 million in tax dollars back to Utah. According to a press release issued by Utah Decides, that money would be enough to create nearly 14,000 new jobs and generate $1.7 billion in statewide economic impact.
Voting on the proposition will be during the Nov. 6 general election. Early voting is from Oct. 23 through Nov. 2.
Lori Wright, CEO of Family Healthcare, will speak at the town hall, educating attendees about the services the clinic provides and the needs of the community seeking services.
Family Healthcare is a federally qualified health center providing primary health care services to all, regardless of ability to pay.
