3RD Thursday Art Conversation features Polynesian wedding customs

ST. GEORGE — Susi Lafaele and others from the Southern Utah Pacific Islander Coalition will share traditional wedding customs from the islands of Hawaii, Samoa, Tonga and Fiji as presenters at the next 3rd Thursday Art Conversation.

The hour-long program will be held on Thursday, March 19 at 7 p.m. at the St. George Art Museum and will feature several individual short presentations including first hand accounts, displayed artifacts and island dancing from presenters who were born and raised on their respective islands but currently call St. George home.

This evening at the St. George Art Museum will also include a pre-performance by the St. George Dance Company beginning at 6:30 p.m. The St. George Dance Company ‘s mission as a professional modern dance group is “to bring contemporary dance to the forefront as an accessible and valued art form and presents innovative work that connects with and inspires the soul.”

The St. George Art Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 47 E. 200 N. According to the museum’s mission statement, the city-owned and operated facility exists “to educate … through quality exhibitions from all periods, cultures and media … and to collect, conserve, inventory, exhibit and interpret art and artifacts from Utah and the West.”
