Gardner speaks on ranching; 3rd Thursday Art Conversation

ST. GEORGE — Larry Gardner, who calls himself “a rancher by heritage and a teacher by choice,” is the next 3rd Thursday Art Conversation presenter at the St. George Art Museum.

On Thursday, August 20 at 7 p.m. the St. George native, who grew up herding cattle on a ranch in Pine Valley, will share his stories of “Ranching: Then and Now and other ramblings from the back of a horse” as the final presenter in the museum’s current display of Western art.

Gardner, a fifth generation rancher, graduated from Dixie High, Dixie College, and received his BS and MS degrees from BYU. After 30 years in the classroom, and 14 years on the St. George City Council, he is now back on the ranch in Pine Valley and the Arizona Strip, doing what he loves to do.

Art Conversations at the St. George Art Museum are regularly scheduled adult gatherings of art lovers interested in more information about artists on display, collectors or others relating to “Cowboys Come to the St. George Art Museum” which closes Saturday, August 29. Art conversations are free-of-charge.

The St. George Art Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 47 E. 200 North. According to the museum’s mission statement, the city-owned and operated facility exists “to educate … through quality exhibitions from all periods, cultures and media … and to collect, conserve, inventory, exhibit and interpret art and artifacts from Utah and the West.”
