VIRGIN — Announcing the Future Faire in Virgin  — a celebration of the Arts, Humanities, Sciences and Freedom of Expression! For those who attended and enjoyed last month’s “mini faire” at the park, this one will be the main event.

This is a free admission fair, where anyone may bring a table, pedestal, dance floor,
whatever and share their arts, skills, knowledge or ideas. It is not necessary to be a resident of Virgin. The emphasis is on free exchange, so we ask that artwork not be offered for sale, but if you are performing or conducting a mini-workshop on your craft, feel free to put out a donation hat, business cards, shop banner etc. Contact information may be found at the end of this notice. Please let us know if you wish to contribute!

The event coincides with the celebration of the 800th anniversary of the signing of theMagna Carta, June 15-19, 1215 AD, — what many consider the advent of the modern view of the rights of man, including the rights of Free Speech, the right to petition your government, and the idea that not even kings are above the law. It was on the basis of the Magna Carta that British colonists sent King George the Declaration of Independence, in protest of his violation of those ancient rights.

The event is intended to be an “arts and humanities and sciences in the park”, with an open invitation to any artist, writer, performer, scientist or thinker who would like to set up
a card table/stall and share their work with others, give mini-lessons, do poetry readings,
whatever. It will be a kind of “show and tell” for adults and kids alike.

Free food and refreshments will be provided.

Among the already-planned activities are:

  • 1. A pair of full-size color replicas of the Magna Carta and Declaration of Independence,
together with their text / translations from Latin, and historical background.
  • 2. Drumming circles
  • 3. Juggling lessons
  • 4. Free-style drawing lessons
  • 5. Native Flute playing and lessons
  • 6. Poetry slam
  • 7. VirginsFuture.org information table.
  • 8. Live Music
  • 9. A “Thousand Cranes for Virgin” table, in which lessons for folding origami cranes
(or blue herons) will be given — the cranes will later be strung together as part of a project
to present 1024 cranes to the town of virgin, to fulfill the town’s wish to become the
kind of town that its citizens hope it will be, and to ensure its happiness for the next
    1000 years.
  • 10. Face Painting
