Parowan celebrates Arbor Day; tree care demonstrations, kid’s activities

PAROWAN – The public is invited to come out to Dr. Meeks Park to get tips on planting and pruning fruit trees while the kids plant their own flower pot as part of Parowan City’s Arbor Day Celebration slated for Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Parowan Shade Tree Commission members, landscape contractor Jesse Smith and Master Gardener Vito Locatelli, will show how to properly plant an apple tree, after which Locatelli will show how to properly prune and take care of your fruit trees.

“While at the city’s arboretum, people can look at tree species that are recommended for planting in our area,”  Mary Hanley, Parowan Shade Tree Commission Chairwoman, said.

Certified Arborist, Nancy Dalton, will be working with the kids and helping them plant flowers in pots to take home with them. Flowers and potting materials have been donated by Ladybug Nursery.

After the training, refreshments and a drawing for a variety of gifts will occur. Parowan Shade Tree Commission members will also be giving tours of the arboretum and the Dr. Priddy Meeks pioneer cabin. All activities are free of charge.

Dr. Meeks Park is located at 50 N. 400 W. in Parowan. Parking is encouraged along 400 W. For more information contact Mary Hanley at 435-702-4112 or Vern Fridley at 435-559-6751.
