Start the new year with annual ‘Prayer Over the City’

ST. GEORGE — Each year the St George Interfaith Council holds a “Prayer Over the City” program on New Year’s Day. This one-hour program begins with music by the Interfaith Choir and a welcome by President Richard “Biff” Williams of Dixie State University.

Religious leaders in St George offer prayers focused on specific topics such as families, military, first responders, etc. Church leaders come from 16 or 17 local churches, including New Promise Lutheran, a stake president from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Good Shepherd Presbyterian, Community of Christ, Baha’I Fellowship, Shepherd of the Hills Methodist Church and others.

The program has a 10 year history and begins at noon each New Year’s Day. The 2018 Prayer Over the City will be held in the Concert Hall at the DSU Eccles Center, 225 S. 700 East in St. George.
