ST. GEORGE — One person was transported to the hospital after rolling his pickup truck while exiting Southern Parkway onto Zion Park Scenic Byway Sunday evening.
At approximately 5:23 p.m., while traveling eastbound on the on-ramp to state Route 9, a white Nissan Frontier went off the south side of the road. It headed down the embankment and rolled over, Hurricane Police Officer Dan Raddatz told St. George News.
While law enforcement couldn’t confirm if the man was wearing a seat belt, Raddatz said he likely wasn’t, as he was ejected from the vehicle. He sustained a head injury and was transported to St. George Regional Hospital by the Hurricane Valley Fire District.
The crash’s cause is still under investigation, Raddatz said, adding that, except for rain, there were no obvious contributing factors.
To stay safe on the roads, he suggests drivers wear their seat belts so “if an accident does occur, you’re far more likely to come away with less severe injuries.”
“And with the rain on the roads, especially where we’re expecting more and more rain all this week, slow down and make sure you’re taking your time,” Raddatz said.
