In addition, Utah Tech will host its sixth annual holiday Trailblazer Nation Tree Lighting Celebration at the Holland Centennial Plaza on Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m., and donations for the food drive will be accepted during that event.

According to a news release, all members of the Utah Tech campus and St. George and Washington County communities are invited to participate by donating canned and non-perishable food items, toiletries and other personal hygiene items, to fill the shelves of the University’s Blazer Food Pantry.

Trailblazer student-athletes, coaches and athletic administrators, along with other campus, community and Findlay Hyundai representatives, will volunteer throughout the day to collect donated items.

The Blazer Food Pantry, in partnership with the Utah Food Bank, was created to help decrease student food insecurity, all while increasing healthy eating choices and improving student retention efforts, the news release said. The pantry is open to all Utah Tech University students, faculty and staff to provide assistance in meeting their basic nutritional needs.

Over the last six months, the Blazer Pantry has distributed more than 11,200 pounds of food to members of the university’s campus community in need.
