ST. GEORGE — Looking for more funding to provide free services for residents and families dealing with Alzheimer’s and dementia, Memory Matters Utah is joining the list of local charities that has opened a thrift store.
The Memory Matters thrift store is currently open at 168 N. 100 East, Suite 109, but a formal grand opening is planned on Feb. 9 from 2 to 5 p.m.
LuAnn Lundquist, founder and director of the nonprofit, said more funding is needed to continue to provide free services for those suffering from dementia, as well as free training for their caregivers.
“We have been collecting quality donations for two years waiting for an affordable location to open near the Memory Matters Utah nonprofit base in the office complex,” Lundquist said. “This location is cozy and filled with artwork, small home goods, crystal goblets, home décor and quality clothing and shoes.”
Lundquist said the pandemic and inflation have dropped individual donations “dramatically,” while the need for Memory Matters’ services in Washington and Kane counties has increased.
