Phillip A. Marler

April 22, 1947-April 17, 2024

Phillip A. Marler passed away peacefully on April 17, 2024, at his home in St. George, Utah. He was born in Imperial, Missouri, on April 22, 1947, and was one of 12 children. Phillip grew up in Farmington, Missouri, and served in his country during the Vietnam War.

Phillip married Beth Marler in 1970, and they raised two incredible children, Sara and Alex, of whom Phillip was infinitely proud. Upon retirement from her career as a registered nurse, Phillip became Beth’s one and only patient, where she selflessly cared for Phillip and focused on his quality of life despite his multiple serious diagnoses.

Phillip was a classic example of hard work and dedication as a carpenter, husband and father. He worked hard to provide comfort and security for his family, whom he loved deeply. A skilled carpenter by trade, Phillip enjoyed constructing anything — from an intricate rocking horse for his son to a 3,200-square-foot home he built for his family. His eye for detail was impeccable, and his standards for finishes were extraordinary.

Phillip’s focus on the well-being of others extended to animals, from horses on the farm where he worked during high school to the family’s dogs. How Phillip talked about his dogs would lead strangers to believe they were his children rather than pets.

Phillip is preceded in death by his father Thomas Lee Marler; his mother Mildred Marler Horton (nee Abney); and siblings Elnora, Beverly, Walter, Doris, Thomas, Jr., Paul and Kevin. We would be remiss if we did not acknowledge that Phillip is also preceded in death by Greta, Baxter and Lily; family dogs that will be forever missed (though our hearts are warmed imagining him greeting them at the rainbow bridge).

Phillip is survived by his wife of 53 years Beth; his daughter Sara Lynn Marler (wife Ramona Gau); his son Alexander Jason Marler (wife, Catherine Leberg); his grandson Evan Marler; his granddaughters Ava Gau and Olivia Gau; his siblings Carl, Darrel, Kenneth and Brenda, along with many nieces and nephews and his faithful companion dogs Max and Addie.

The immediate family will gather privately to honor Phillip on what would have been his 77th birthday.

Arrangements are under the care of Pine View Mortuary, 435-986-4222. Click here to visit the Pine View Mortuary website for full obituary and funeral service listing.
