CEDAR CITY — One driver was transported to the hospital following a rear-end collision in Cedar City on Friday afternoon.

The incident, which involved two white Ford pickup trucks, occurred just before 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of 3000 North and 2300 West.

Deputy Doug Twitchell of Iron County Sheriff’s Office said the driver of the first truck had been heading southbound on 2300 West and was stopped at the intersection, preparing to make a left turn onto 3000 North.

As he was waiting for an oncoming vehicle to pass, his Ford F-150 was struck from behind by a southbound Ford F-250 that was pulling a large horse trailer.

“She didn’t notice him in time,” Twitchell said of the woman driving the F-250, adding that the trailer had multiple horses on board.

No horses were injured, Twitchell said, and the woman driving the F-250 was unharmed. However, the man driving the F-150 was transported via Gold Cross Ambulance for treatment of possible neck injuries.

Traffic in the area was impacted with partial lane closures for more than 30 minutes while the scene was cleared. Although both Ford trucks sustained moderate to heavy damage to their respective bumpers, each was possibly still drivable. The horse trailer did not appear to be damaged.

In addition to multiple Iron County Sheriff’s deputies and Cedar City Fire Department personnel, officers also responded from Cedar City Police and Southern Utah University Police.

This report is based on statements from court documents and law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings.
